Smith Promise FAQ

Q: What does the Smith Promise 10 YR/120K mile Powertrain Limited Warranty cover?
A: It covers all internal lubricated parts of the engine, transmission, transfer case, and drive axle. Includes parts, labor, and applicable seals and gaskets.

Q: What do I have to do to keep the warranty in effect?
A: Simply maintain the vehicle using any ASE certified service repair shop in accordance with the Manufacturer’s Recommended Maintenance Schedule, including changing the engine oil every six months or 6,000 miles (whichever comes first). Note that the recommended maintenance must be performed according to the maintenance schedule booklet.

Q: Where can I find the Manufacturer’s Recommended Maintenance Schedule for my vehicle?
A: See your Maintenance Guide given to you at the time of delivery or call and speak to a Smith Chevrolet Turlock Service Advisor.

Q: Do I have to have my maintenance work done at Smith Chevrolet in Turlock?
A: No, it is not necessary to have your maintenance work performed at Smith Chevrolet in Turlock. But you are required to keep records of all the maintenance performed.

Q: Do I have to have my warranty work done at Smith Chevrolet Turlock?
A: Any warranty work completed once the warranty goes into effect (i.e. after the manufacturer’s warranty is expired), will not be required to be completed at Smith Chevrolet in Turlock.

Q: What does this warranty cost me?
A: Nothing. The 10 YR/120K mile Powertrain Limited Warranty is included with the purchase of a qualifying new or used vehicle sold at Smith Chevrolet Turlock and carries a $200 deductible per occurrence.

Q: Can I change my own oil?
A: Yes. You may change your own oil, but you must keep date-stamped supporting documentation (i.e.: receipts for oil, filters, etc.). You will also have to log the mileage of each oil change, showing that it was done within the recommended mileage intervals (6 months or 6000 miles.) The date of receipts must be in line with the recommended mileage intervals of your vehicle.

Q: Am I responsible for paying a deductible when making a claim?
A: Yes, $200 total for each occurrence.

Q: Does my Warranty contract provide towing?
A: When towing is necessary, your vehicle will be towed to the closest qualified service facility or to any other location requested. Towing assistance will be covered up to $75 per occurrence; only if your vehicle is towed to the issuing dealer.

Q: Is the Warranty transferrable?
A: No. The Warranty expires upon transfer to any subsequent owners. It is only good for the Original Owner(s).

Q: Does this warranty apply to all vehicles?
A: No. This warranty does not cover European, high-performance sports cars, or any modified vehicles (i.e. vehicles must be stock, the way it came from the manufacturer). It also doesn’t apply to any vehicles that are over 5 years old, or that have more than 60,000 miles at the time of sale.
